the Slavonian Grebe is now looking even smarter and was calling loudly tonight possibly a sign of imminent departure--a bubbling Ruddy and an evening lit Pochard and a flying Little dwebe

extreme digi-scoped thrush






great scope views of the female type Black-throated Thrush at Buckton today but with heat haze and distance even the digi-scoped images were nothing to write home about--the first shot taken when the bird was closer in when first found is about the best

light is everything






birds can turn from dull to glowing with just the movement of a cloud--I particularly liked the wavy reflection from the reeds into the coloured water and the contrast of the subdued greys and straws with the brightness of the grebe

fishy tail




The Slavonian Grebe often seems to catch fish by the tail end--it then has to knock them around to the head first swallowing position---its also seems to have a voracious appetite eating three large fish within 15 minutes this afternoon

as I was waiting for the Slav Grebe to appear between hail storms this Kingfisher flew past--I managed one image as the AF struggled onto the small blue blur!

missed this on my local patch yesterday must have been in one of the channels when I passed by! or I need new bins---very nice bird but if only it had been a month later and in fsp
