Buff-breasted Sandpiper






amazingly this was the 4th Buff-breast to be recorded at Alkborough in the last 4 years and the 5th in total with one in 1981! -- this is the first spring record but maybe involved a female as there was no hoped for wing-waving display but it did give several low clucking / tuck type notes audible at close range; the amazing increase in the number of birds of this species on the east coast in recent years seems to be totally at odds with its declining status in the Nearctic
