Spoonbill ageing





one of the Alkborough birds is clearly in its first summer (2cy) from the three faded brown outer primaries and coverts; what seems a bit odd is that the newly moulted inner primaries and a few secondaries have black tips like juveniles; BWP does state that occasional birds have black tips even when in adult plumage so maybe it is not that unusual
