photo of the month Marsh Harrier

three weeks ago I made a mad decision and bought the new Canon 500 f4 II -- all the shots since September 28th have been taken with it and either the 1.4x or 2x III Canon converters -- I am still not totally tuned in to it but it is lighter, much better balanced and more hand holdable than the mark 1 but is it optically better? well it seems that when you get it right it is with better IQ but I have still not really tested the AF properly; some of the Black-tailed Godwit images I took with the 2x converter seemed exceptional for a 1000mm combination but I have not set up the lens calibration as yet due to lack of time etc -- anyway this is my image of the month in an October that as yet has failed to produce anything on the Lincs coast  - maybe next week

Very nice Graham. Our migration passage birds have all but moved on now but I've had a good couple of months with them.

I take it you're still using a 1D Mark IV with the new 500?
