Silver-washed Fritillary

not at a well known site but in my stamping ground at Laughton Forest, as far as I am aware the first record  for the forest and probably for north Lincolnshire -- out taking some habitat photos with the 5D3 and 24-105 Canon lens I was not exactly equipped for butterfly photography -- I saw it flitting along the ride in front of me and it landed about 15 feet up in  a birch tree where I attempted to digi-bin it thinking no-one would believe me -- then it just glided down onto some brambles on the side of the ride and I managed a few shots to confirm the record - after about 30 minutes with the sun in and out it disappeared into the trees and I did not see it again
