Sabine's Gull

somehow not quite right at an inland location away from their pelagic / tundra homes but beggars and all that -- presumably an advanced 2cy or retarded 3cy with the extensive dark mottled, shawl and nape, the marks on p5 and the decidedly scrappy head -- the yellowish staining is presumably from the base of the floodwater pool --

The bill is adult-type, so must presumably be retarded 3cy, or ?? moulting adult. On some photos it looks like P5 on others P6 that is the one you mention (largely white with some black) ? Presume its a failed or non-breeder, ?? summering somewhere on the Irish Sea or similar. Having said that, my gull credentials are pretty poor !
