Common Scoter migration

Saturday evening while waiting for the Squacco a flock of Common Scoters moved high west over the bridge; estimates varied -- have a quick guess answer at the end; Common Scoters are regular in July - August moving west high along the Humber then inland heading for the Pennines but picking up the late evening flocks is often tricky as they are so high -- this year we have recorded about 700 so far moving through but you could guess that several 1000 may pass in a normal autumn ; late autumn flocks tend to arrive much lower and are easier to locate as they have to climb to pass over the bridge -
counted total 121 birds
