Brown Shrike

after the Wolds appreciation took on some dodgy diesel which caused my engine to decide to half die on Sutterton roundabout but after a few minutes it seemed to recover so the visit continued - what a really nice bird but in 23C heat there was always going to be haze problems -

early morning over the Lincs Wolds

set off on the presumption that if the Brown shrike was still there I would extend my trip from Horncastle but as it happened spent some time looking at the mist and inversions over the Wolds while so many people just shot past in their vehicles ignoring the natural world as usual - the human race is beyond hope

Wasp Spider and Western Willow Emerald

unable to find any good migrants on the coast the Wasp Spider was the only highlight of 10 hours slogging Lincs coastal bushes yesterday and the Willow Emerald on my patch was the only high point of another dull day today - Easterly winds are not necessarily exciting

local waders

at last a few waders on the local foreshore with a nice collection of juvenile Bar-tailed Godwits, a few Black-tails and Knot and even the occasional Dunlin

Greenland Wheatear

a beautiful juvenile bird at Alkborough yesterday - certainly seems to fit the Greenland bill and it was so tame I am guessing it had not encountered human lifeforms before

Ivy Mining Bees

at the Whitton ivy fest - they are small and the one down side of the 400DO2 is that it doesn't focus very close but with he 1.4x converter and the 5D4 there is a lot of room from cropping

juvenile Cuckoo

always nice to see in autumn -- was watching a Tube video about photographing birds in flight and the guy said turn off IS if you have a shutter speed over about 1000th second - so I did and it certainly seemed to work on this one

flying Ring Ouzels

very nice to see high proportion of fledged juveniles in the 20+ Ring Ouzels in the area
