Black Brant and Dark-bellied Brents

struck me again in digital images that the upper and under forewing coverts are much blacker than the Dark-bellied Brents and hence there is less contrast with the flight feathers --

and we had a phyllosc today but typically it was a Chiffchaff!

when even rubbish images can be of use

in the fog and distant but a pretty distinctive Black Brant found by Chris Atkin at Donna Nook last week; features can possibly help to ascertain if it is the same bird as last autumn which you would expect -- always worth having a blast with the camera

Brent Goose races

a fine mix from the Fitties this morning which is much more than could be said for the weather -- duller than dull and seriously cooooollllddddd

at a great distance in dull light -- a day at Donna Nook produced a fly by Pectoral Sandpiper, quickly disappearing Great Grey Shrike, distant Rough-legged Buzzard, a possible Pallas' call only and this bird -- the autumn has produced so few good views of migrants on the coast that even after tomorrow's forecast easterly I am totally uninspired

came across this cracking Black Brant today in a flock of 520 Dark and 2 Pale-bellied Brents -- the most striking Brant I have seen for some years note the collar and amazing flank patch - unlike Norfolk where Brents are tame this flock is incredibly flighty due to the attention of farmers and dog walkers hence the distant images taken from a car at 200m+ even from a vehicle they fly at < 200m--
