juvenile Roller terrible shots

this juvenile Roller found a few days back was entertaining in the Lincolnshire fens at Timberland yesterday but always distant, flighty and in horrendous heat haze most oof the time

On October 3rd 1983 as County Recorder I received a phone call from a visitor to the county who reported finding a Roller near Woodall Spa while out on a family walk - he agreed to meet me there the following morning and show me where the bird had been and luckily it was still there on a clear fell and feeding well - it went on to stay for 17 days so this year's bird has a while to go to beat that record - amazingly though, the two sites are only 10kms apart, as the Roller flies quite a coincidence

juvenile Black Tern

so long since I have seen a juv on the local pits rather than the distant Humber; proved tricky with light and distance not helping the AF but eventually patience, 4 hours, paid off -

juvenile Spotted Redshank in challenging light

the predicted cloudy morning did not really materialise so when this beautiful juvenile Spotted Redshank landed right into the sun it was tricky to get any sort of shots but overall feel quite pleased with the way they worked out

pickings have been decidedly slim for me on the migrant front this autumn so far
