two Dusky Warbler day

spent far too long trying to get a shot of the Donna Nook Dusky yesterday with the top two images the very best but the Sea View bird was a bit better although never close in the camera it came within 15 feet in the vegetation - an exceptional year for this species in Lincs with at least 6 birds recorded thus far - although rare lets face it they are not that attractive in the warbler stakes -

Dusky Warbler mark 2

had another session with the Lincs coast Dusky Warbler yesterday -- it was dull and cloudy and for the first 2 hours the bird was amazingly elusive and hardly calling at all -- then it got flushed into the garden of the house opposite and when I was left on my own with a bit of fieldcraft it was very obliging albeit in a lightless situation -- feeding on the ground most of the time but every time it caught one of these juicy green caterpillars it would fly up into the tree to bash it on a branch before eating it -- Canon 5D4 with Canon 400 DO2 and Canon 1.4x converter mark 3 hand held as always

Dusky Warbler

the Huttoft Dusky Warbler was very vocal but very elusive and virtually impossible to get the camera onto today -- long distance, high ISO image -- my 6th in Lincs surprised even me

Dusky frustration does on

When a new Dusky Warbler turned up at Gib Point on Monday afternoon it seemed like a chance of another photo? showing well early Tuesday by the time I got there needless to say it was the most elusive little blighter you could hope for so some rubbish records BUT -- a Dusky Warbler had been at Gib in the East dunes from the 14th to the 17th when it was trapped -- not seen again after trapping so a bird that appeared 1.216kms away by Tennyson's Sands on the 19th would be assumed as a new bird; indeed views seemed to confirm that it was unringed and in 90% of cases it would have gone down as different but as can be seen here it was in fact the same bird; how many times does this occur with rare birds and clearly with much less rare species like Yellow-browed warbler? just how much over counting does go on?

very elusive Dusky Warbler

at Gib Point yesterday -- very very tricky in the dune scrub / vegetation -- nice views but so quick the camera was really struggling to get onto it or was that me? 7d2 at 1600 ISO is truly rough --

Dusky Warbler

with a gap of 2 hours between surveys I chanced a quick visit to Spurn and managed the best shots I have ever got of a Dusky Warbler, not difficult really as I have only one very poor slide of the 2001 Lincs bird to compete with --rubbish light, high ISO, very active bird all the usual excuses
