Kestrel and Common Crossbill

 Still a few Common Crossbills in the forest and possibly breeding - this Kestrel was catching what I assumed to be Common Lizards but the only time it came up with prey it was totally hidden in the bunch of molinia that it took with it

first-winter male Kestrel

















A confiding bird but the light was against me as usual apart from one very short spell when the sun almost appeared for about 15 minutes -- it was only catching small insect prey and spent long periods just sitting looking for prey; most shots with Canon 1D4 and 300 2.8 II no converters
