all taken last night in the semi-darkness and the bird was not as close as it had been; today it was way off so no improvement in a few records --

and here's one I took earlier

In the Camargue in February 2005 just upgraded to the Canon 20D and 100-400 mark 1 -- Dave Jenkins found this Spotted Crake on a small pond while we were looking for Spotted Eagle-- it was nice and tame and for the first time I took RAW and JPeg images -- the original JPegs were pretty mediocre but always take RAW's the technology of conversion improves all the time and even age old digital images can be upgraded!

cracking bird and the first had seen for about 12 years! amazing what you don't see for long spells when you don't twitch regularly -- great scope views and active most of the afternoon but heat haze and pollutants in the air plus distance, 2x converter etc made fro rubbish images -- looks like a fresh juvenile --
