following up the orange-tailed buteo today there were at least two juveniles flying from the nest with the two adults also present--here are a coupl of shots of the male (red-tail) now in post-breeding moult and one of the juveniles

Crowle

called in at Crowle Waste early am--an abundance of dragons with 100's of emergent Black Darters plus Common Hawker and several Southerns---male Common and male Southern posted here plus Black Darters and a juvenile Kestrel which was being buzzed by a Hobby--missed the Hobby shots!

although I have recorded 18 species of odonata from the Humber clay pits this year has seen the first live examples of Southern Hawker following a single record of a dead specimen--two different individuals have been seen including this female found this morning 2nd---maybe this species like Broad-bodied Chaser and Black-tailed Skimmer is set to colonise the area in its push northwards

more gulls

a few Yellow-legged Gulls from Kirkby tip 31.7.05

a visit to Kirkby tip produced some complex gull watching--here are three Caspian Gulls with Lesser Black -backs--two adults and a first-summer-second winter--note the latter bird has another gull standing behind it hence the odd look to the wing tip/tail --all images are distant digi-scoped shots hence lack of detail

kestrel juvs

this nest of Kestrels at Barton was quite late in getting going and hence the young are still not fledged

serious moult

the local male harrier has now got into serious moult--note the new silver inner primaries but the general state of dis-repair including a moulted central tail feather

ginger tops

after the tern overload of the weekend it is back to harrier overkill this week --this juvenile male has a nice ginger centre to the mantle---local backdrops
