Black Tern




the juvenile Black Tern still on the local patch today but typically a long way out

Red-throat





this adult Red-throated Diver found on the local patch yesterday was still present this morning and caught a large fish before going into an enforced 20 minute digestion sleep---unusually it appears to be toally lacking in oil unlike most of the birds which appear on the pits

Pinks






the number of Pink-feet has built up quickly locally with 2500+ today but as the birds were never all together it was not possible to get an accurate count

this juvenile Peregrine got caught up in the mass of Black-tails but seemed at a bit of a loss as to which one to choose!

it was a day of Pink-feet and Black-tails--large flocks of both but the light was usually poor when the birds were in the air and good when they were hidden!---here are some of the 4000+ Black-tails at North Killingholme

apple and Comma


several butterflies were frequenting this apple tree at Messingham on a sunny October 3rd

a juvenile Marsh Harrier, Starlings and a Reed Warbler October 4th

Pink-feet




the first dawn roost count on the Humber produced just 1300 birds on October 4th a low count for recent years

forest fungi




a very quiet day in the forest with the exception of a female Marsh Harrier and 7 Common Buzzards overhead---fungi though were numerous--herewith from the top Tremella mesenterica, Phaecolus schweinitzii and edible stump fungus if I have got them correct

this fine juvenile - first-winter Black Tern was on the local patch this am having first been seen last week---it still has some way to go to beat the previous latest patch record on October 25th 1982
