Gosh Gos
spent the day looking for Goshawks -- very little activity all morning in spite of the very good looking weather but between 14:00 and 16:00 almost constant activity contra all the books -- most birds were juvs ie first-summer birds almost all in some state of moult with missing primaries and particularly tail feathers -- thought I had seen about 7-8 birds but looking at the different photos of the juvs there were clearly at least 10 birds in all -- juv males are a real ID test in some conditions -- even passed one off as a Sparrowhawk at one stage! until I put the scope on it -- pity I don't live closer as I think you could eventually get lucky with the camera given enough time
Red Kite Alkborough
a couple of shots of the kite at Alkborough last Friday -- been lingering in the camera - missed the best shots as it came up the hill from below me and camera was in the boot!

One or two BIFs
a day messing around with camera and lens combinations -- need to be more selective -- not sure what happened to summer here today; rain and dull then cold after a promising start -- the Goldeneye is nothing startling just like the rain
BB cover
everyone with an interest in birds in Britain should subscribe to British Birds -- my Purple Heron from Huttoft Pit April 2011 on the cover this month

more of the Tundra Beans
in flying profile Tundra Beans are pretty similar to Pinks at a distance difficult -- nice sun this afternoon between showers -- considerable variation in the amount and intensity of orange on the bills of these 12 with some having small dull orange patches, others bright orange small bands and at least two with orange extending back up the upper mandible towards the bill base
