Black-bellied Dipper selection box

early Black-bellied Dippers

made the dash back up for the dipper this afternoon; arrived to find it was not there but picked it us under the stone bridge and it eventually flew back to its favoured spot; I must get some trigger finger control -- 800 pictures is just excessive although an awful lot are rubbish it has to be said -- spent most of the time there with just me and the bird really surprising; it was doing a lot of feeding and picking up and turning over some notable stones to get at the grub below them --

2cy male Marsh Harrier

difficult to sex this bird until you see the greater primary coverts from above; the iris is also starting to turn paler

Bittern

one from this morning -- very cold air and bright sun soon make for distortion even at quite close quarters - a distinctive deep chestnut ruff on the nape of this bird

another Iceland Gull

when I covered this site and a few North lincs tips in the 70's and even early 80's we used to dream of finding an Iceland Gull and had one for about every 20 Glaucous -- now its almost totally reversed, not seen a Glauc at all this winter
