there are few things that I hate more than barbed wire -- a mass killer of wildlife and proliferating on Nature Reserves -- absurd

more lens testing
gulls often feature in lens tests locally -- variable light today after the sun went -- think I am getting the hang of a few things - bottom shot probably the best Mallard image I have ever taken - why do we ignore Mallard?

well not actually bread because the kids at Waters' Edge are encouraged to buy bags of wheat to feed to the ducks; so whenever a potentially wild / rare duck turns up at a slightly dodgy location, ie one frequented by lots of people, we have the debate over whether it came to bread -- locally Pochard occur on most of the pits and are pretty unapproachable but on Waters' Edge some of their number have realised that a few screaming children represent no threat and the free grain on offer means you can feed within 6 feet of human beings stood on a boardwalk above you -- there are also plenty of escaped Tufted Ducks doing the same thing -- so no hard and fast rules birds do what they want when they want

a worse lens test
wanted to try the various lens combinations today but this afternoon at 3200 ISO I was getting 1/100 sec what a day -- the Whooper was a patch drop in -- the harrier performed for about 3 minutes then flew off typical of my arrival -- another day better light tomorrow??? first 8 shots 1DX 400 DO II and 1.4 rest 7D2 with 400 DO II and 1.4 or 2x -- all 1/800 or 1/1000 sec hand held
