Long-tailed Ducks on the local pits

Found two female Long-tailed Ducks on the pits this morning which was sort of expected given the weather conditions yesterday but one amazingly had a blue colour ring on its left leg - presumably a sign of captive origin but how had it ended up with an untinged companion? Had they both been to Scandinavia for the summer?
