Short-eared Owl stashing voles

great weather forecast again -- full sun all day according to the BBC -- after a 40 -60 sun cloud morning in rolled the thick greyness at 13:35 and that was it -- the owl caught about 5 voles in quick succession but always flew to a clump of rush to stash them -- I am guessing that in snow cover the rush clumps will protrude from the snow longest and allow it easier access when it needs to get a stashed vole from the freezer
