Nightjars

found a nest at last this year -- the flying male, from a different territory, was disturbed unintentionally while doing routine BBS work --

I can thoroughly recommend the Collins Bird Guide by Lars Svensson and Killian Mullarney and Dan Zeterstrom -- it will allow you to distinguish between male and female Nightjars and it could be very useful to assist you in trying to identify other wild birds in the field should you ever come across any
