after watching three very different plumaged males in this area all spring it was somewhat odd to see an identikit young adult male today -- when it started fighting with the same aged resident it was a case of ID by primary pattern and moult -- the intruder, from a failed nest about 2 kms away, has three generations of primaries and has renewed a single tail feather on the left side with an adult type grey feather -- the big rusty female, bottom shot, is a complete mystery as I have not seen her all spring
