an Emerald

this was a real shot in the dark as it were a flying dragonfly that we knew was an Emerald of some species but it was in a very shady woodland ride and with so little light I had the camera and lens on a monopod and shutter speeds were still low but as it was hovering I managed a couple of images that combine a sharp head and the movement in the wings against a nice green background; it is one of my most satisfying dragonfly shots but we still do not know exactly what species it was as the differences between Brilliant and Balkan Emeralds are so small that in the hand identifications are usually necessary; taken along the River Tisza in Eastern Hungary in May 2011
