ferrrerr ugy ? duck the sequel
well as aythya ducks do the Ferruginous Duck has returned to Barton pits but is it just right? although obviously in eclipse it looks rather similar to it did last autumn when it appeared to be a first-winter, apart from the loss of marks on the undertail coverts; the bill shape seem to be OK compared to an adult drake photo from Hungary but is the black still a bit too extensive? it always seems to be low in the water and never raised its head or neck today to produce a Feruginous type head profile but this was maybe just posture as it was diving all the time and coming up with a wet and matted crown -- longer study on a better day may help
