and the Sooty Grouse finale
the initial views of the bird booming from the tree were rather less than spectacular but when Julia found this male displaying on a bit of open grass amongst the snow views were somewhat better! one of my best birding moments ever -- then two females appeared later in the day in the same spot -- when we went back a couple of days later a man was working on the adjacent building roof so that was that
Hudsonian Whimbrels
the flight shots were of a bird that just flew by at Campbell spit, all in focus just hand held, the later bird was on Wickaninnish beach on the Pacific Rim in exactly the same spot where I photographed an approachable bird last September so surely has to be a good chance it was the same bird as there were only two birds on the beach it and the Marbled Godwit
