the drive to Canmore, west of Calgary, took us sort of past Frank Lake so another attempt at the Franklin's Gulls seemed in order but along Highway 2 the rain was torrential and visibility next to nil though it looked brighter further north; between Waterton and Fort Macleod though a male Northern Harrier was displaying over an alfalfa crop on the roadside; a quick stop revealed two males in full display and a female -- being something of a harrier nut this was superb and in spite of the light rain the experience was very memorable and involved a lot of shutter action
