more local wings

the amazing incompetence of the MET office, even on Friday night they were giving full sun for today, had me really cheezed off with no real expectations for the day; as photographers we always wish for sun but the sun is not always the best option and these low light images show off the subtle contrasts in the Waxwings plumage some of which can be burnt out in bright sun; there is though rain on the head of the second bird and from mid afternoon I was wishing I was somewhere warm and sunny! the colour ringed bird looks to have been marked in Scotland but full details when I get them

they seem to have surprisingly thin and short tarsi for that size bird. those rings look tiny.

the waxwings seem to have left the Alps at least a couple of weeks ago, it is really warm in the valleys, but the mountains are still deep in snow.
