at the start of our trip we went south of Calgary to Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump; the site in the prairies was interesting but most of the breeding birds seemed to have already left; en route though we passed some great looking Prairie potholes with huge numbers of wildfowl and waders; the trouble was finding a way off the highway to look at them and worse to get close access; I eventually managed to find a way into one where there was a nice collection of Blue-winged Teal, Wilson's Snipe, Solitary Sand, 2 Stilt Sands, 40 Wilson's Phals, 10+ Baird's Sands, 30+ Lesser Yellowlegs, 10+ Semi-p's and 4 Least Sands, Killdeers and a flock of Savannah Sparrows while Swainson's and Red-tailed Hawks hunted all around--an hour spent with the camera in the ouse by the slaughter house produced the various wader images featured below. Images of the site, prairie and a wader lovers dream with Wilson's Phals, Lesser legs, Semi-p, Least and Baird's Sands in shot
