the day after returning from Canada a juvenile Buff-breasted Sandpiper turned up at Toft Newton Res, just 40 mins from home, so a quick visit was organised; the bird has an unfortunate and bizarre injury in carrying a stem of wheat? which has become stuck in its vent and seems to have immobilised on leg; presumably it tried to land in a stubble field and the pointed stem became impaled as it dropped down?
