Our family holiday took us to the west of Canada in late August (school holidays) we followed the typical tourist route of Banff-Jasper-down to Wells Gray and then Vancouver Island, Pacific Rim and Victoria area then back to Vancouver. Being a family trip birding was restricted to parts of the day and thus I only packed the 1D MkII and the 300f4 plus the 17-40 and 70-200 for mammals and scenery. Birding was very variable with most passerines in moult and migrant flocks edgy and difficult to observe but there were memorable moments and overall I was pleased with the images I managed given the restricted time allowed on most species.
