dull dull day brightened

today was one of the dullest, dismal days of the year - foggy, misty and wet with showers and nil nil light so it was somewhat ironic that I bumped into 3 Waxwings that actually stayed in the same spot for over an hour -- I took a few shots simply because they were there but expected little in the way of images so I guess these are a bonus;  2 first winters and a stunning adult male -- I heard a call from the male that I have never witnessed before a quiet low pitched chatter totally different to the usual calls

the local goose fest continues to produce some nice birds presumably fleeing the cold weather on the near continent; today 14 Pale-bellied and one juvenile Dark-bellied Brent joined the local Canadas, Pink-feet and Greylags at South Ferriby

White-fronted Geese

a total of 47 White-fronts arrived at Alkborough a couple of days ago -- they are feeding with Greylags --

This appears to be the largest flock of White-fronts in NW Lincs previous high totals being 24 Winteringham January 14th 1994 and 23 Barton February 16th - 20th 1996,

Fallow Deer

this stag Fallow Deer is an addition to the Alkborough Flats mammal list -- its origin is not clear but times have been very hard for the small herd on Read's Island and it seems possible that some may have swam off the island to escape the weather - today two others were in fields opposite Read's Island which suggests that this may be their origin
